Temperature Blog Challenge

Our new Maths topic is Temperature.

Do you know what we might use to measure temperature?

Your task:

  1. Prepare two beakers, one with water from the tap and another with hot water (ask an adult to help).
  2. Predict what would happen if the thermometer is put in the beaker with hot water and what would happen if it is put in cold water.
  3. Put the thermometer in the hot water to show how the mercury expands to indicate an increase in temperature.
  4. Read and write the temperature indicated using the sign degrees Celsius. Temperature is determined by counting the number of units from the main marking.

We can not wait to hear how you get on.

Steel drum workshop

We were lucky enough to have Marcello and Junior from Irie Steel Pans visit us for our workshop all about steel pans. This tied in with the work we have been doing in Geography on the Caribbean and Jamaica.

The boys played the pans and heard all about the history of the drums There was a lot of singing, dancing and moving to the music. The boys and staff had great fun!

The finale was a class conga line to Caribbean tunes.

Mental health week – breakfast

On Monday 7th February we enjoyed a Mental Health Awareness Breakfast. Boys were asked to bring in a small packed breakfast. The idea was to provide an opportunity for an informal and gentle start to the day and week. Very much like a family meal time – coming together to strengthen ties and build relationships. These things lead to a sense of belonging and to better self-esteem.

The 2WA boys were delighted to have time for a simple, reflective start to the week.
