Microscope work in the Science Lab

In preparation for our trip to Forty Hall, we visited the Science Lab to learn how to use a microscope.

We enjoyed looking at x 40 magnification to view tiny sugar and salt crystals.

We were even lucky enough to look at a tiny piece of our hair.

Thank you to Mrs Barry for such a fascinating session.

Did you enjoy this lesson?

Our visit to meet Lazarus the Giant African Land Snail

Mrs Craig told us all about Lazarus the giant African land snail this morning. We learnt that he loves to eat cucumber, but is enjoying cauliflower leaves today. He has a cuttlefish bone to gnaw so he gets lots of calcium to help keep his shell strong.

Do you remember which antennas sensed light and dark and which ones he uses for touch to feel his way?

How should we always pick up snails?

Please comment with your answers. Thank you.

Story Sacks

We have been busy creating story sacks for our classes, as well as for our local nurseries.  Each boy has painted stones, each with an image that can be used as a  story stimulus, for example, a mermaid, whale, dragon, castle, palm tree etc.

Thank you to all our boys and parents for finding suitable stones and bringing them into School.

I am sure that you will agree that the finished product looks fantastic!

Minibeast Hunt

We had a lovely Science lesson at the Ecology Area this afternoon. The boys found a newt, ladybird larvae, woodlice, bees, mosquitos, water boatmen, butterflies, ants and many more fascinating creatures.

Here are some photos of the lesson.

Today’s Welly Time

The sun was shining on the Ecology area for our second session of Welly Time this morning.

The boys started by taking a ‘reflective’ walk. They then sat quietly on mats, at a distance from each other. After, they were able to reflect on the experience and say how they felt to be sitting alone, what they heard etc.

Next, they collected items that interested them from the ground to create tissue art. These were added to a large piece of tissue paper painted with glue. We placed another sheet of tissue over the top. Our tissue artwork looked fabulous once dry.

At the end of the session, the boys were invited to say one new thing that they had discovered.

Please enjoy these fantastic photos taken by Miss Bailey.
