Christmas Giving Tree

Our Christmas Giving Tree will be set up in the theatre foyer this week. The idea is that instead of writing individual Christmas cards to all their friends the boys make a card or decoration out of recycled materials and address it to whoever they wish and place it on the Giving Tree. This year, however, instead of asking for a donation to charity we are asking the boys to undertake a kind action. So for example, giving Dad help cooking dinner, giving the dog a lovely walk, giving help to a sibling with their reading, giving the hamster cage a really good clean…

The Giving Pledge is written on a card and added to their decoration. The pledge cards were sent out with the letter to parents, but will also be available in a basket under the tree.

In this way we hope to encourage everyone to think about practical acts of kindness and not just financial generosity.

This links with the words of Rev Newstead who spoke a week ago about giving that has a ‘cost’ in terms of discretionary effort, a call on our time or a shift from our own immediate agenda or priority. Of course such acts of kindness become their own reward because of the way they make us feel about ourselves and the blessing they become upon the relationships involved.

Electrical Conductors and Insulators

Electricity travels easily through electrical conductors, like metals.

Materials that do not let electricity pass through them easily are called electrical insulators. Plastic, wood, glass and rubber are good electrical insulators.
