Times tables badges

Dear boys,

We have a new Maths Challenge for you.  During the last week of term Mr Pontin, Head of Maths, will be testing boys who confidently know their times tables up to, and including, 12×12.  He will ask the boys a mixture of questions to test their confidence and knowledge.  All boys who can successfully answer all the questions will receive a special times tables badge.

Good luck!

Maths < > =

This week we have learnt how to use the greater than and less than symbols.

When one number is bigger than the other number; we use the greater than sign >

7,680 > 7,068

When one number is smaller than the other number; we use the less than sign <

£3.78 < £8.34

When one number is equal to the other number; we use the equal to sign =

41 = 41

We spoke about how the signs < > look like the mouths of crocodiles  🐊

Greedy crocodiles will always want to eat the larger number.

Please comment with the answers to these questions?

1.   78    56

2.   12    9

3.   89   98

4.   100p  £1

5.   620ml  630ml

6.  2km 2000m

Charlie’s recount of our trip to Arla and Olleco

My trip to Arla Dairy
By Charlie
I went to Arla Dairy with school and I had lots of fun.
I was in a group with Dylan and Oliver.
First we went with a lady to play games. The games were milking a cow which was really fun but I wasn’t very good at it.  Then we played the buzzer game and you weren’t meant to touch the wire or it would buzz, that was fun.
We saw a model version of Arla Diary and the recycling plant.
The real recycling plant had a really nice smell but there were lots of flies.
Then we were asked questions about what we had learnt on our visit to the Dairy by a man and we had to answer them.  One of the questions was how many teeth does a cow have? Do they have less than humans? More than humans? Or the same number as humans?  The answer was that they have the same amount as humans.
Then we had our packed lunch.
Then we went with a man called ‘Goldilocks’ to look around the Dairy to see where people worked, where they store things and how robots helped. The robots lifted the milk because it was so heavy.  The robots were controlled by humans.  Five of the milk bottles spilt and a lady with a hose cleared it up.  The milk is kept in a really cold fridge so it doesn’t go off.
Then we went to the recycling centre and saw how that worked.
Then we went on the coach home.

Coin Mosaic

This Friday we will be taking part in the annual charity Coin Mosaic. Please dig deep into your pockets and bring in any loose change before Friday. All money raised goes to the Head Boys Charities.

Look carefully to see our design on the whiteboard.

This was the winning design from our 2018 competition.

Christopher’s recount of our trip to Arla and Olleco

OUR SCHOOL TRIP

We went to the Arla dairy . We learnt about milk and how it was transported to Arla. We saw all the milk having the labels put on to the milk. We also saw robots carrying the milk. When we were looking at the storage a fire alarm went off. After that we went to Olleco the recycling plant and learnt about the environment .On the way back I sat next to Zachary.
