Tom’s recount for our Arla and Olleco trip

Arla Dairy & Olleo Recycling Plant Trip by Tom

First we went on a school trip to Arla,  on the Golden bus.  I sat next to George on the bus and on the way back I sat next to Dylan.  When we were there we had to wait quite a while to get in.  When we got in we sat down for a little bit then we had some groups which went to different places.  The colours of the groups were red, blue and green.  I was in the red group and we went to look through a view where we saw lots of milking trucks.   They were round and big.   Then we went to a play area where we could milk a cow and played a game that you have to get more milk into the bucket.  This was fun. Then we went to a place where we watched a video which showed us how people process milk.  Then we went to lunch, at lunch time we got some milk to drink.

After that we went through a big corridor where we looked through a glass window where there were some robots making milk.  Then we went to a room where we saw storage and then a room where we saw lots of robots which were carrying milk.

Then we walked to the Olleco Recycling Plant.  It was very smelly which we got used to.  There were two groups 2WA and 2P.  First 2WA went upstairs to see tanks putting rubbish in a big hole.  Then we went to another window and we saw where lorries come in.  Then we went downstairs.  2P was doing a quiz and went upstairs so we could swap over.  We then did the quiz and we got rubbish bins that can store pens. On the way back I sat next to Dylan and the day was great fun. When we got back to our classroom we played for a while and then we went home.

Arla and Olleco Trip

What a lovely day we have had! We have been so well looked after at both Arla and Olleco. The boys have learned all about milk and renewable energy. We were all fascinated and particularly enjoyed the robots carrying the milk cartons! Here are a selection of photos from the day which I’m sure the boys will tell you all about (particularly the interesting smell at Olleco!). You will notice that most of the photos are of the backs of their heads, this is due to the fact that they were so interested in what was going on in front of them!

Arla Presentation-246n7r9 Here is the presentation that we enjoyed on our trip.

Well done, Hasan!

Hasan took part in a15 mile charity bike ride in the New Forest yesterday and successfully completed it! He was fundraising for Kidney Research UK and has managed to more than triple his target! He chose this charity as his father is a kidney doctor.

He received a lovely pack from Kidney Research UK a few days before the event with some goodies – a T-shirt, some balloons, flags and also a little cuddly toy. They also sent him a nice card on Saturday wishing him good luck.

Hasan was really excited about this bike ride with his daddy and some other friends. His parents say that they are really proud of him and also overwhelmed by the support and donations received online as well as the hundreds of good luck messages that poured in from family and friends all over the world.

Well done, Hasan!

Cress investigation

We planned a fair test cress growing investigation in our science lesson. Four bowls were set up with the following different conditions,

  1. In the sun and watered
  2. In the sun and no water
  3. In the dark cupboard and watered
  4. In the dark cupboard and no water

We observed our cress seeds regularly.

Can you set up a similar investigation at home? Please do email photos and we will share these on the blog. Thank you.

Mental health week – breakfast

This week is Mental Health week. Throughout the School, we starting the week with a special breakfast. The breakfast was an opportunity to sit and chat in classrooms; a simple, reflective start to the week.

In addition to the breakfast, during assembly in the afternoon we had a mental health focus. We showed a short animated video to the boys, talked about our ‘A little help, please’ boxes and reminded boys about the importance of talking to a trusted adult if they feel unhappy or need a little help. If you would like to watch the video at home, please go to the following link,
